ODAC Field Hockey Report: Week 4

ODAC field hockey remained in full non-conference play, going 8-8 in 16 non-league contests. Both Bridgewater and Washington and Lee won twice with the Generals highlighting team results with a triumph over 14th-ranked Franklin & Marshall College. Lynchburg also opened some eyes with a lopsided win over a good Susquehanna side.

  • JULIA MCDONALD | WASHINGTON AND LEE | GOALKEEPER
McDonald, a senior from Guilford, Conn., picks up her second ODAC weekly honor of the season after making 17 total saves in a pair of high-profile wins for Washington and Lee. During the midweek, McDonald – who earned the NFCA Division III Defensive Player of the Week award two weeks ago – made seven saves in a 4-1 road win at the University of Mary Washington. She allowed the first goal just 6:55 into the contest, but kept the Eagles off the board thereafter. On the weekend, McDonald helped the Generals avenge a road loss at Franklin & Marshall College in 2024 with a 4-3 overtime triumph at home over the 14th-ranked Diplomats on Saturday. It was only the second-ever matchup between WLU and F&M, with the victory marking the Generals highest nationally-ranked win since defeating #14 Shenandoah in 2022. McDonald made 10 saves against the Diplomats including two in overtime as part of four consecutive penalty corners taken by F&M. For the season, McDonald is second in the ODAC in save percentage (.804) and fourth in saves (41) and goals against average (1.632).

  • ANNA DORRESTIJN | LYNCHBURG | FORWARD
Dorrestijn, a senior from Driehuis, Netherlands, exploded for nine points as nationally 19th-ranked Lynchburg registered an impressive 8-1 victory over Susquehanna University on Shellenberger Field on Saturday. Dorrestijn posted a career-high four goals while adding an assist to knock off a solid River Hawks program. She scored the first three goals of the game with two late first-quarter tallies and her third just 1:52 into the second frame. She then assisted Fenna den Bieman on the Hornets fourth goal in the 25th minute and posted her fourth goal just over a minute later to give Lynchburg a 5-0 lead at halftime. For the season, Dorrestijn leads the ODAC in points (14), shots (28), and shots on-goal (16). She is tied with Shenandoah's Reagan Flory for top marks with six goals scored.

    • Bridgewater goalkeeper Ashley Nau started and played 30 minutes each in wins over DePauw (4-2) and Centre (1-0), making four overall saves. Kylie Amberger dished out an assist on the Eagles goal against Centre.
    • Roanoke midfielder Kaitlyn Robertson scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Meredith and added another in a 3-2 loss to DePauw.
    • Sweet Briar forward Emmi Burdine notched her second career multi-goal game with the first two tallies in a 3-2 win over Lancaster Bible.
    • Virginia Wesleyan goalkeeper DJ Holsclaw made four saves and midfielder Kyndra Peyton scored twice in a 5-0 win over Wilson College.
    • Washington and Lee midfielder Amanda Tan converted a penalty stroke 7:38 into the overtime period to lift the Generals to a 4-3 victory over 14th-ranked Franklin & Marshall on Saturday.
