ODAC Women's Soccer Report: Week 5

ODAC women's soccer teams competed in 16 matches over the past week with a dozen featuring as ODAC contests. Nationally 16th-ranked Washington and Lee is joined by Randolph-Macon and Roanoke with a full six points from their first two league ties with Lynchburg at 1-0-0 in its lone conference outing. Bridgewater's seven wins are the most in the conference, while WLU, Lynchburg, Virginia Wesleyan, and Guilford have each won six times.

  • KAYLIE SCHERER | RANDOLPH-MACON | LEFT BACK
    Scherer, a freshman from Dumfries, Va., picks up her first ODAC weekly award after helping Randolph-Macon post a pair of clean sheets and outscore its opponents, 16-0, over the Yellow Jackets first two league outings last week. Scherer was a part of a defensive unit that allowed just five two total shots including zero efforts at their net in a 12-0 triumph over Averett on the weekend. During the midweek, Scherer got forward to dish out an assist in a 4-0 road win at EMU. The Yellow Jackets defense surrendered just five shots to the Royals. Against the Cougars on Saturday, Scherer advanced up the left wing to hand out a pair of assists on RMC's dozen goal output.

  • MEGAN ZIMMERMAN | WASHINGTON AND LEE | MIDFIELDER
    Zimmerman, a sophomore from Cincinnati, Ohio, was on the mark four times to account for 67-percent of the Generals goals as nationally 16th-ranked Washington and Lee opened its ODAC slate with a full six points. The Generals first win came via a 4-0 result on the road at fellow perennial ODAC power Virginia Wesleyan during the midweek. One of three Zimmerman sisters that star for WLU, Megan opened the Generals account off an assist from Elizabeth Zimmerman in the 23rd minute. Megan tallied her second goal 4:28 into the second half, again turning Elizabeth's pass into an assist for a 3-0 lead. On the weekend, Megan slotted home both of Washington and Lee's goals for a 2-1 comeback victory over Guilford. Following a scoreless opening 45 minutes and after the Quakers went ahead, 1-0, in the 56th minute, Megan leveled the score at 1-all in the 64th minute over a double-assist from Mary Parrish Green and Helen Otteni. Just over 10 minutes later, Megan punched in the game-winner off a second assist from Green. For the season, Megan is tied for fifth in the ODAC in goals scored (5) and tied for eighth in points (12).

    • Bridgewater forward Lyric Birkley scored twice with two assists in a 12-0 win over Hollins and notched the Eagles goal in a 2-1 loss at Virginia Wesleyan.
    • EMU keeper Katie Parks played 45 minutes each with three total saves in a 4-0 loss to Randolph-Macon and a 1-0 triumph at Randolph.
    • Hollins forward Evelyn Keefer scored twice and dished out an assist in a 5-1 win at Sweet Briar that was shortened due to inclement weather.
    • Lynchburg keeper Kate Shepherd made five saves in 128:37 in goal to help the Hornets secure wins over Randolph (5-0) and at Marymount University (3-1). Midfielder Morgan Oliver scored once in each game.
    • Randolph-Macon forward Emma Owens scored twice in a 4-0 win at EMU and then registered three goals with three assists in the Yellow Jackets 12-0 triumph over Averett.
    • Roanoke forward Rebecca Carr scored once in a 6-0 win at Averett and notched both goals in a 2-0 win over Guilford. Keeper Grace Suchy made one save in each contest.
    • Virginia Wesleyan midfielder Kaylyn Seitz scored the Marlins first goal and then assisted on the game-winner in a 2-1 win over Bridgewater.
    • Washington and Lee stopper Amelia Manke helped the nationally 16th-ranked Generals' defense surrender just one goal in a pair top ODAC wins at Virginia Wesleyan (4-0) and over Shenandoah (2-1).
