ODAC Men's Basketball Report: Week 11

For the second straight week, ODAC teams participated in a dozen games with all 12 featuring as conference outings.  Randolph-Macon is the only ODAC squad remaining in the D3hoops.com Top-25 at No. 5 in the country. The Yellow Jackets were joined by Guilford, Roanoke, and Washington and Lee in winning both of their contests last week. RMC, at 14-1, is one of five league squads with double figure victories including WLU (13-2), RC (11-4), H-SC (10-5), and Averett (10-3). Randolph-Macon is 6-1 in ODAC play with the Generals (5-1) and Virginia Wesleyan (4-1) also with just one league loss.

  • JACKSON BELL | ROANOKE | GUARD
    Bell, a junior from Roswell, Ga., put together a pair of strong all-around efforts in leading Roanoke to a pair of ODAC wins over Hampden-Sydney (62-47) and at Virginia Wesleyan (73-64). Bell spearheaded a defensive effort that held both programs under 65 points as he pulled down an ODAC weekly-best 18 defensive rebounds, leaving himself just one board short of a pair of double-doubles. Against the Tigers, Bell went for 17 points and 10 rebounds (9 defensive) for his first career double-double. He was 6-of-15 from the field and 3-of-3 from the stripe while also handing out four assists and pulling away a pair of steals. At Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday, Bell again dropped in 17 points with nine rebounds (all defensive). He was an efficient 6-for-9 from the field. For the season, Bell is 10th in the ODAC in scoring (14.1) and averages 4.3 rebounds per game. He is 12th in field goal shooting (.482, 82-of-170).

  • BRAYLEN SALTERS | GUILFORD | GUARD
    Salters, a sophomore from Cleveland, Ohio, was a stat sheet stuffer in leading Guilford to ODAC wins over EMU (89-68) and at Bridgewater (108-72), helping the Quakers post a +28.5 scoring margin over their opponents. Salters opened with 28 points on 8-of-18 shooting including 6-of-11 from deep against EMU. He was 6-of-6 from the foul line and pulled down two boards to go with three assists and a career-high eight steals. On Saturday at BC, Salters registered 19 points on 5-of-11 from the field and 8-of-9 from the stripe. He added five boards, two assists, and two steals to his line. For the season, Salters leads the ODAC in scoring (21.3) and points scored (319). He is second in foul shooting (.820, 109-of-133), third in steals (35), and sixth in three-pointers made (30).

    • Averett guard Jalen Chambers averaged 13.0 points with 2 steals while forward Malik Ware notched 5.0 points and 3.5 boards with 5 steals and 3 blocked shots in the Cougars' 1-1 week.
    • EMU guard Isaiah Carr averaged 17.5 points with 4 assists and 5 steals and forward Jazen Walker registered 11.0 points and 8.0 rebounds with 4 assists in the Royals' 1-1 showing.
    • Guilford forward Ke Edwards averaged 9.5 points and 4.5 rebounds with 5 steals in the Quakers' 2-0; he had a career-high 16 points at Bridgewater.
    • Hampden-Sydney forward Shane Fernald nearly notched a triple-double (19-11-8) in a win over Lynchburg in the Tigers' 1-1 week.
    • Lynchburg guard Jesse Mitchell averaged 14.5 points and 6.0 rebounds with 2 assists and 3 steals, while forward Jamarcus Brown notched 19.5 points and 4.5 rebounds with 4 assists and 2 steals in the Hornets' 1-1 week.
    • Randolph-Macon guard Keishawn Pulley Jr. averaged 14.0 points and canned 8 total 3-pointers, while forward Malcolm Hodges averaged 9.0 points and 4.5 rebounds with 6 assists and 3 blocked shots in the Yellow Jackets' 2-0 week.
    • Washington and Lee forward Connor Amorosi averaged 20.5 points and 4.0 rebounds with 5 assists, while forward Addison Newkirk averaged 12.5 points and 6.0 rebounds with 4 steals in the Generals' 2-0 week.
