ODAC Men's Basketball Report: Week 9

ODAC men's basketball was the most active sport over the holidays with 21 countable games (plus two exhibitions) including two league contests. Nationally second-ranked Randolph-Macon (11-0) and Washington and Lee (10-1) won those ODAC games, while the conference went 12-7 in non-conference outings. Four teams remain ranked by D3hoops.com with No. 12 Virginia Wesleyan (7-4), No. 13 Roanoke (8-3), and No. 16 Hampden-Sydney (7-4) joining RMC in the top-25. The Yellow Jackets are 3-0 in ODAC games with VWU and WLU both 2-0.

  • DAWSON EDWARDS | GUILFORD | GUARD
    Edwards, a graduate student from Durham, N.C., registered 13 steals over three games and notched his first collegiate double-double in helping Guilford to a 2-1 showing over the holiday season. At the Springhill Suites Guilford Holiday Classic, Edwards posted 12 of his 13 steals as the Quakers forced a combined 54 turnovers in their victories over the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (116-84) and Concordia College at Moorhead (85-60). Against USCGA, Edwards went for 10 points with eight boards (4 defensive), five assists, and seven steals. He backed that up with five points, three boards, three assists, and five steals versus Concordia. In ODAC play after the turn of the calendar, Edwards scored 18 points with a career-high 13 boards (7 defensive) in Guilford's 90-88 setback to Washington and Lee. He added three assists and a steal. For the season, Edwards is averaging 10.8 points and 5.3 boards per game. He leads the league in assist to turnover ratio (3.6, 32 assists vs. 9 turnovers) while ranking third in steals (25) and ninth in assists (32).

  • CONNOR AMOROSI | WASHINGTON AND LEE | FORWARD
    Amorosi, a sophomore from Arlington, Va., helped Washington and Lee to a trio of victories over the holiday season, improving the Generals' record to 10-1 overall and just behind nationally second-ranked Randolph-Macon (11-0) in the ODAC table. Amorosi had a quiet start to the W&L Holiday Tournament, posting five points with six boards, two assists, and two steals in just 19 minutes during the Generals' 94-39 triumph over Mt. St. Mary's (N.Y.). Amorosi then exploded for a season-high 27 points in a 66-62 win over Kenyon College to earn tournament MVP honors. He was 10-of-18 from the field including 4-of-6 from deep to go with four boards, an assist, and a steal. In ODAC play, Amorosi went for 23 points in a 90-88 victory at Guilford. He was 6-of-12 overall including 3-of-7 from three-point range with a perfect 8-for-8 showing from the foul line. He chipped in four rebounds to his line. For the season, Amorosi is ninth in the ODAC in scoring (16.0) and averages 4.5 boards per game. He is eighth in free throw shooting (.790; 49-of-62).

    • Averett guard Jackson Sellars posted 29 points with 6 boards and 3 steals in the Cougars' 86-74 win at Pfeiffer.
    • EMU playmaker Aaron Brooks went for a season-high 22 points with 3 boards, 4 assists, and 3 steals in EMU's 67-62 loss at St. Mary's (Md.).
    • Guilford guard Gabe Proctor made 14 total 3-pointers on the way to averaging 19.0 points and 7.0 rebounds with 6 assists and 8 steals in the Quakers' 2-1 holiday showing.
    • Hampden-Sydney guard Colin Radcliffe averaged 12.5 points and 4.5 rebounds with 3 steals in the No. 16 Tigers' 1-1 showing.
    • Lynchburg forward Jamarcus Brown posted 21 points and 6 rebounds with 2 assists in the Hornets' 85-60 setback at No. 2 Randolph-Macon.
    • Randolph-Macon guard/forward Ty Showalter averaged 13.3 points and 4.7 rebounds with 5 assists and 6 steals to help the No. 2 Yellow Jackets rattle off three victories to remain unbeaten at 11-0. Guard Keishawn Pulley Jr. averaged 14.0 points and 4.7 rebounds with 9 assists and 2 steals.
    • Roanoke guard Jackson Bell was named MVP of the Cregger Invitational after averaging 23.5 points and 5.0 rebounds with 3 assists and 5 steals over the No. 13 Maroons' two victories. He went for a career-high 30 points in a win (81-54) over Wilkes University.
    • Shenandoah guard Dorian Davis posted 24 points and 13 rebounds with 3 steals in the Hornets' 80-70 win over Southern Virginia. Forward Ellis Wright went for 22 points and 8 boards.
    • Washington and Lee forward Addison Newkirk averaged 9.3 points and 7.3 rebounds with a pair of assists in the Generals' three wins over the holidays to improve to 10-1 overall.
