ODAC Men's Basketball Report: Week 6

In a rare occurrence this season, ODAC men's basketball teams lost more games than they won in week six of the season, going 1-5 over a light schedule. Still, 10 of the conference's 12 teams have .500 or better overall winning percentages. That includes four teams that remain in the D3hoops.com Top-25 rankings led by 6-0 Randolph-Macon at No. 2 in the survey. Virginia Wesleyan (7-1) is slotted 11th, while Roanoke (5-2) and Hampden-Sydney (5-2) are ranked 13th and 15th, respectively. RMC and VWU are joined by Lynchburg at 2-0 in early ODAC games.

  • TERRELL FITZGERALD | AVERETT | FORWARD
    Fitzgerald, a junior from Chatham, Va., used every bit of his 6-foot-5 frame to put together a strong defensive showing in the Cougars' 96-69 triumph over Warren Wilson. Fitzgerald came off the bench for an 18-minute shift and blocked a trio of shots to go with a pair of steals. He was also 4-for-4 from the field on the way to career-high 10 points with a pair of rebounds and an assist to help Averett improve to 6-2 on the season.

  • MASON MITCHELL | AVERETT | GUARD/FORWARD
    Mitchell, a sophomore from Charlotte, N.C., registered his second 20-plus point effort of the season to earn his first ODAC weekly award and help Averett to a 96-69 victory over Warren Wilson. Mitchell exploded for a career-high 27 points with seven boards and an assist. He was 8-of-16 from the field including 6-of-8 from downtown. He also made 5-of-6 free throws in helping the Cougars' improve to 6-2 on the season. Through eight games, Mitchell is averaging 10.1 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.

    • Bridgewater guard Jahmir Brown scored 20 points to go with 5 boards and 2 steals in a 64-61 loss at Mary Baldwin.
    • Lynchburg guard Jamarcus Brown registered his 4th double-double of the season with 20 points and 11 rebounds (8 offensive) to go with 2 assists and 2 blocked shots in an 83-74 loss to Denison.
    • Randolph  guards Chase Depriest and Steven Burgess Jr. each buried 4 three-pointers on the way to 17 and 16 points, respectively, in a 95-87 loss to Southern Virginia.
