ODAC Women's Volleyball Report: Week 8

The past week was heavy with conference play for the ODAC's women's volleyball programs as 11 of the 16 overall matches impacted the league table. Nationally 21st-ranked Virginia Wesleyan picked up a pair of big 3-0 wins at the top of the standings with victories over Bridgewater and No. 22 Washington and Lee on Friday and Saturday, respectively. The Marlins are now 8-0 in the league and 22-1 overall. Lynchburg also won twice in ODAC play to sit 7-1 against league foes and 19-2 overall with the Hornets continuing to receive votes towards the AVCA's top-25. Shenandoah won twice in a pair of five-set thrillers on the week to sit third at 6-2, while WLU and BC are 6-3 in a tie for fourth.

  • BREANA BROOKS | VIRGINIA WESLEYAN | MIDDLE
    Brooks, a senior from Asheboro, N.C., earns her third ODAC weekly honor with continued strong play at the net in nationally 21st-ranked Virginia Wesleyan's 2-0 showing against ODAC squads in the top of the league table. On Friday, Brooks registered five blocks with one dig defensively and chipped in eight kills against just one error on 15 swings for a .467 attack percentage in a 3-0 victory over Bridgewater. On Saturday, the Marlins posted a second straight 3-0 win, this time over No. 22 Washington and Lee. Brooks registered three blocks and a pair of digs to go with nine kills at a .316 clip. For the season, Brooks leads the ODAC in total blocks (75), block assists (57), blocks per set (0.97), and hitting percentage (.332, 152-42-331). She is second in solo blocks (18).

  • NATALIE MOORE | GUILFORD | OUTSIDE
    Moore, a senior from Talbott, Tenn., earns her first ODAC weekly honor after collecting 46 kills and matching the ODAC single-match high for kills in Guilford's 2-1 week. Moore is the first Quakers' women's volleyball player to earn an ODAC weekly honor since October 2019. Moore registered her 46 winners on 111 swings on a .288 attack percentage while adding four assists, one ace, 29 digs, and six blocks to her stat line. On Wednesday, she posted seven kills with two assists, 10 digs, and two blocks in a 3-0 non-conference victory over Johnson C. Smith University. On Friday, Moore kicked off back-to-back ODAC weekend matches with 14 kills in a 3-0 win at EMU. She again passed out two assists to go with an ace, six digs, and a block. On Saturday in a five-set loss at Shenandoah, Moore matched Virginia Wesleyan's Hannah Smith for most kills in a match with 25 winners. She did so on just 50 swings with five errors for a .400 attack percentage. She chipped 13 digs and three blocks defensively. For the season, Moore is fourth in the ODAC in kills (236) and sixth in kills per set (3.15). She is tied for seventh in aces (36) and has picked up 205 digs.

    • Averett outside Tahani Villines posted 29 kills with four assists, six aces, 40 digs, and seven blocks in the Cougars 1-2 week.
    • EMU libero Emerson Moats collected 43 digs with eight assists and three aces over three ODAC matches.
    • Guilford libero Vivian Cavataio picked up 41 digs with 13 assists and five aces in the Quakers 2-1 week.
    • Lynchburg middle Leah DiNardo and outside Kate Hardie were a strong 1-2 punch in the Hornets 2-0 week in ODAC play. DiNardo posted 16 kills with nine blocks (2 solo) and Hardie went for 22 kills at a .357 clip with seven aces and eight blocks.
    • Roanoke middle Emma Catoe registered eight kills and four blocks in a 3-1 loss to Lynchburg.
    • Shenandoah libero Autumn Stroop picked up 51 digs (at 5.1/set) to go with 14 assists and four aces in the Hornets 2-0 week. Middle Ashlynn Spence went for 33 kills at a .297 clip with three aces and seven blocks in SU's two five-set victories.
    • Virginia Wesleyan outside Hannah Smith hit .290 on the way to 22 kills with three aces, 33 digs, and six blocks in the No. 21 Marlins 2-0 week.
    • Washington and Lee libero Vivi Vasquez picked up 40 digs with seven assists and two aces, while outside Riley Debiec smacked 30 kills on a .309 attack percentage with five blocks in the No. 22 Generals 2-1 week against ODAC teams.
