ODAC Equestrian Report 4

It was a light week with just one show in ODAC single-discipline equestrian, the result was a big one in the conference landscape. Bridgewater hosted nationally-ranked Sweet Briar on Friday and tied with the Vixens, 5-5, on score. The Eagles earned the victory by just six points at 775.0 to 769.0 to mark BC's first head-to-head triumph over SBC.

Sweet Briar continues as one of two nationally-ranked ODAC teams by the NCEA. The Vixens are currently slotted fifth in the country, while Lynchburg tops the rankings with a 4-0 record. Dartmouth College, Sacred Heart University, and the College of Charleston separate the Hornets from the Vixens in the table.

  • MARGARET BROWN | BRIDGEWATER COLLEGE
Brown, a sophomore from Chesterfield, Va., helped Bridgewater pull off its first win over nationally-ranked Sweet Briar on points at 775.0 to 769.0 after the two ODAC squads tied 5-5 following competition in both fences and flat sessions. Brown was named MOP of the fences competition after she and SBC's Hallie Nelson rode Ernie in their matchup. Brown won 84-81 to tie for the highest score of the show and collect one of two points for the Eagles in the Vixens 3-2 win session win over fences. Brown and fellow teammate Willow Wright were the only riders to post a pair of 80-plus scores on the day as Brown also won her matchup on the flat to ultimately help Bridgewater overcome Sweet Briar on points to earn the team win.

  • WILLOW WRIGHT | BRIDGEWATER COLLEGE
Wright, a sophomore from Brewster, N.Y., helped Bridgewater claim its first win over nationally-ranked Sweet Briar after the two squads tied on score, 5-5, and the Eagles earned the victory on points by six tallies at 775.0 to 769.0. Wright was named MOP of the flat competition after she and SBC's Hallie Nelson rode Chuck in their matchup. Wright won by 10 points, 82-72, with the highest point total of the session. Wright's efforts helped Bridgewater win the flat competition, 3-2, and secure a 14-point margin (379.0 to 365.0) to recover from an eight-point deficit (404.0 to 396.0) after the fences session. Wright and teammate Margaret Brown were the only riders to post two 80-plus scores on the day with Wright also winning her matchup over fences to help Bridgewater claim the team victory.
