ODAC Men's Volleyball Report: Week 7

ODAC men's volleyball had its heaviest conference slate of the season with eight of 16 overall matches played counting towards their league records. EMU, Randolph-Macon, and Roanoke all went 2-0 in conference play with Bridgewater collecting the program's first ODAC victory and Lynchburg claiming its first league win of the season. The Maroons are now 4-0 in league play and 8-3 overall, while the Yellow Jackets boast the ODAC's best overall record at 12-2 including a 3-0 showing in conference matches. The Royals are 2-0 in conference and 6-6 in all matches, while Virginia Wesleyan is 3-2 in league outings and 12-3 overall.

  • JAMES POWELL | EMU | MIDDLE/RIGHT SIDE
    Powell, a sophomore from Newport News, Va., was a defensive stalwart at the net last week as EMU went 3-0 with a trio of 3-0 victories over Lynchburg and twice over Averett. Powell racked up 14 total blocks beginning with eight against the Hornets. He had one solo and seven assisted efforts to go with a pair of digs, two aces, and five kills on 13 swings for a .308 attack percentage. In two matches (4 sets played) against the Cougars on Saturday, Powell combined for six blocks (all assists) with three digs with six kills on 11 swings and an assist. For the season, Powell is fourth in the ODAC in aces (16) and tied for seventh in blocks (29). He owns a .286 (45-13-112) attack percentage.

  • IAN WAGENHAUSER | RANDOLPH-MACON | OUTSIDE
    Wagenhauser, a senior from Glen Allen, Va., was both prolific and efficient in helping Randolph-Macon to a trio of 3-0 victories over Randolph, Virginia Wesleyan, and Stevenson last week. Wagenhauser posted 37 kills against six errors on 63 swings for a .492 attack percentage while chipping in 10 digs, five blocks, and a clean record on 59 serve receives over the three matches. On Wednesday at Randolph, Wagenhauser went for 14 kills at a .462 clip with four digs. In match one on Saturday against VWU, he again posted 14 kills on a .500 attack percentage to go with three digs and a pair of block assists. Versus Stevenson, Wagenhauser notched nine kills against just one error on 15 swings for a .533 attack percentage. He picked up three digs and blocked three attacks. For the season, Wagenhauser is third in the ODAC in kills per set (2.92) and fourth in points per set (3.34). He is seventh in total kills (108) and total points (123.5), and eighth in attack percentage (.355, 108-32-214).
