ODAC Women's Basketball Report: Week 14

There are a lot of words that ODAC women's basketball fans and participants can use to describe the next two weeks of action, and they all relate to excitement and/or anxiety in one way or another. All teams have four games left before the eight seeds are set for the ODAC Tournament, slated to begin on Wednesday, February 25, and continue on Saturday-Sunday, February 28-March 1.

All 12 games last week featured as league outings with nationally fifth-ranked Washington and Lee going 2-0 to improve to 21-0 overall and 12-0 in conference games. Randolph-Macon, Roanoke, and Shenandoah also had big weeks, each posting 2-0 marks to considerably improve their standing in the ODAC table. While the Generals are tied with the University of Scranton on a Division III second-best 21-game winning streak, RMC has jumped from 4-3 to 9-3 with a five-game run to sit just one back of Bridgewater (10-2) for second place. Guilford and SU are now 8-4, with Hollins and Virginia Wesleyan locked at 6-6 for sixth place. The Maroons have now won three straight to improve to 4-8 and join Lynchburg in a current battle for the eighth position.

  • ADDISYN BANKS | SHENANDOAH | GUARD
    Banks, a junior from Nokesville, Va., averaged 18.5 points and 8.5 rebounds with nine assists, nine steals, and four blocked shots in leading Shenandoah to a pair of key ODAC victories last week. Shenandoah is now 16-5 overall and 8-4 in ODAC play, tied with Guilford for fourth in the league table. In a 67-60 home win over Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday, Banks cashed in 17 points to go with six boards (all defensive) and six assists along with career highs of six steals and three blocked shots. She was 5-for-14 from the field and 6-of-8 from the foul line. In a 68-56 victory over Hollins on Saturday, Banks registered her seventh double-double of the season with 19 points and 11 rebounds (all defensive). She added three assists, three steals, and a blocked shot to her line. She was 7-of-16 from the field and 3-of-5 from the stripe. For the season, Banks is third in the ODAC in scoring (18.3) and ninth in rebounding (7.7). She is third in assists (80), fifth in steals (50), and sixth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.1).

  • BRIANNA LONG | VIRGINIA WESLEYAN | FORWARD
    Long, a sophomore from Woodbridge, Va., averaged a double-double in helping Virginia Wesleyan to a 1-1 showing in ODAC road games and continuing to prove her importance towards the Marlins' resurgence this season. At 12-9 overall and 6-6 in league play, VWU has already won seven more games overall and six more contests in conference outings compared to last season. Long opened her week with her second 30-plus point game of the season despite a 67-60 setback at Shenandoah on Wednesday. She was 13-of-19 from the field and 6-of-6 from the stripe on the way to 32 points, the fourth-highest output in the ODAC this year. She added 12 rebounds (5 offensive), an assist, and a steal to her line. In a 66-53 win at Randolph on Saturday, Long dropped in 18 points on 6-of-8 from the field and 6-of-11 from the line. She also pulled down eight boards. For the season, Long is fourth in the ODAC in scoring (17.4) and second in rebounding (12.7). She also leads the league in field goal shooting (.603, 138-of-229), a mark that ranks fourth in Division III.
