SALEM, Va. --- Washington and Lee University closed Sunday's championship clash with Randolph-Macon College on an 11-1 run over the final 3:12 to post a 67-56 triumph over the Yellow Jackets to secure the Generals' third ODAC women's basketball title in the last four years in the Salem Civic Center. The victory improved WLU's historic record to 28-0, while RMC lost for the first time since January 21st, snapping an 11-game run that brings the Yellow Jackets' record to 21-7.
With the win, Washington and Lee earns the ODAC's automatic entry into the Division III Women's Basketball Championship bracket. Randolph-Macon and other ODAC schools will have to await the finish of all of Sunday's results for an update to the NCAA Power Index (NPI) to learn if they earned one of 21 at-large berths to the field of 64 teams. The tournament selection show is set for Monday, March 2 at 2:30 p.m. ET on ncaa.com.
The Generals are now owners of four ODAC women's basketball trophies, adding this year's hardware to showpieces lifted in 2010, 2023, and 2024. Randolph-Macon won the 2025 crown, which marked their 11th to rank second in ODAC history behind Roanoke College's 13 titles.
Generals' forward Mary Schleusner had quite the weekend. On Saturday during WLU's 66-52 win over Shenandoah University in the semifinals, Schleusner overtook former RMC national player of the year (2005) Megan Silva for the all-time ODAC career points scored record, making her the greatest scorer in ODAC men's and women's basketball history. On Sunday, she registered 31 points to go with 18 rebounds and a pair of blocked shots on the way to tournament MOP honors. Her career totals stand at 2,407 points and 1,922 rebounds, the latter number ranking No. 1 in ODAC and Division III history.
Forward Sarah Zimmerman -- the two-time defending ODAC women's soccer Player of the Year -- joined Schleusner in double figures with 12 points to go with eight boards and a pair of blocked shots. Guard Quinn McGuinness chipped in eight points with she and Zimmerman joining Schleusner on the All-Tournament Team.
Randolph-Macon was led by its two All-Tournament Team members in forward McKenzie Matheny and guard Sam Smith. Smith registered team-bests of 18 points and eight rebounds, while Matheny notched 15 markers and four boards.
