ODAC Men's Lacrosse Report: Week 6

Nationally fourth-ranked Lynchburg – which received one first place vote in last week's USILA poll rankings – took on a pair of top-10 programs and rattled off a 22-21 win at No. 2 CNU before coming up just short (15-13) at No. 9 Gettysburg. The Hornets are now 6-1 overall, joining Virginia Wesleyan (6-1) and Randolph-Macon (6-2) with the most wins in the league. Hampden-Sydney is 2-0 in early league play, while Roanoke is 5-1 overall.

  • THOMAS SKELLY | VIRGINIA WESLEYAN | GOALKEEPER
    Skelly, a first-year from Boerne, Texas, was between the sticks for more than 158 minutes to help Virginia Wesleyan post a 3-0 week against non-conference foes. Skelly made 32 combined saves at a .604 save percentage to go with 17 ground balls and a caused turnover. In a 21-10 win over Muskingum on Tuesday, Skelly made nine stops at a .529 save percentage while facing 38 total shots. He added three ground balls to his line in 52:22 in goal. In an 18-10 win over Nichols on Thursday, Skelly made 13 saves in 46:24 in front of VWU's cage. He posted a .565 save percentage with 34 total shots fired his way. He posted seven ground balls and a caused turnover. In a 16-3 triumph over Marywood on Saturday, Skelly made 10 stops in a full 60:00. He registered a .769 save percentage while facing 32 shots with seven more ground balls. For the season, Skelly leads the ODAC in save percentage (.615) and goals against average (7.74). He has made 40 total saves.

  • RILEY HASTINGS | LYNCHBURG | ATTACKMAN
    Hastings, a senior from Alpharetta, Ga., went record-book hunting on the way to posting 21 points to help nationally fourth-ranked Lynchburg to a 1-1 show on the road at a pair of fellow top-10 programs. In a 22-21 triumph at No. 2 Christopher Newport on Friday, Hastings set Lynchburg's program record with 13 points on eight goals and five assists. He scored three of his goals (and assisted on another) in the fourth quarter including the game-tying goal with 2:41 to play and then the game-winner with 0:31 showing on the scoreboard. He added a ground ball to his line. Then, in a 15-13 loss at No. 9 Gettysburg, Hastings scored five more times with three assists for a game-high eight points. Four of his tallies were unassisted. He added three ground balls. For the season, Hastings is second in the ODAC in points (37) and assists (13) and tied for first in goals scored (24).
