ODAC Men's Volleyball Report: Week 11

We are just three Saturdays away from crowning the second-ever ODAC men's volleyball champion. Nine conference matches featured over the last week, adding plenty of data to the league standings as teams vie for seeding towards the conference tournament. Nationally 17th-ranked Randolph-Macon tops the ODAC chart at both 11-0 in conference play and 23-4 as the first league team to reach 20 wins this season. The Yellow Jackets earned their second wins of the season over both Roanoke (16-7) and Virginia Wesleyan (18-7), the next two programs with the highest win totals in the league. The Maroons are 9-2 in league play, with Lynchburg (12-9) at 8-4.

  • ALEX SCHOENEN | SHENANDOAH | MIDDLE/OUTSIDE
    Schoenen, a sophomore from Northampton, Pa., got it done on both sides of the net in helping Shenandoah post a trio of victories including two big ODAC wins as the Hornets attempt a late climb up the ODAC ladder. Schoenen opened his week with two total blocks (1 solo) and 10 digs in a 3-2 win over Bluefield College. He added 12 kills on a .357 attack percentage and an ace offensively. On Saturday, SU earned a pair of 3-1 wins over EMU and Bridgewater. Against the Eagles, Schoenen posted seven digs and five blocks (2 solo) defensively to go with 10 kills at a .353 clip and four assists. Versus the Royals, Schoenen registered eight blocks including five solo with eight digs. He again went for 10 kills with four assists and an ace offensively. For the season, Schoenen has posted 135 kills at 2.18 per set with a .331 attack percentage. He has also notched 14 assists, 22 aces, 53 digs, 54.0 total blocks (20 solo).

  • BRYCE MATTHEWS | RANDOLPH-MACON | OUTSIDE
    Matthews, a junior from Chesterfield, Va., collects his third straight ODAC weekly award after helping lead nationally 17th-ranked Randolph-Macon to a pair of 3-1 wins over Roanoke and Virginia Wesleyan this week. On Wednesday, Matthews notched 17 kills with an ace while adding 11 digs and two total blocks at VWU. He accounted for 19.0 points. On Saturday against the Maroons, Matthews turned up the production to post 24.0 points. He hammered 21 kills at a .474 attack percentage to go with two aces, seven digs, and two total blocks. For the season, Matthews has posted 245 kills at 3.40 per set with a .303 attack percentage. He has also recorded 17 aces, 127 digs, and 53 total blocks.
