Three ODAC Teams Enter Division III Men's Lacrosse Bracket

Champion WLU Joined by Lynchburg and Roanoke

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- For the seventh time in ODAC history, three conference teams have been selected to carry the ODAC banner on the men's lacrosse national stage as announced by the Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship Committee via selection show on Sunday evening.

League champion Washington and Lee University is joined by runner-up University of Lynchburg and Roanoke College as at-large selections to the field as determined by their final ranking in the NCAA Power Index (NPI) list.

The Division III men's lacrosse bracket includes 40 teams with 26 qualifying automatically as conference champions like Washington and Lee. The remaining 14 entrants were determined by ranking in the NPI once all games went final on Sunday evening. Lynchburg slotted eighth on the final Division III table, entering the field with the fifth-highest NPI on the at-large entries. Roanoke ranked 25th on the list, which put them into the bracket as the 14th and final at-large selection.

All teams in a given sport -- 234 in D-III men's lacrosse -- earn a NPI rating. Those NPI ratings are ranked sequentially and form a transparent method of selecting teams at-large to Division III brackets, replacing the former process of the sport championship committees selecting teams at-large based on predetermined selection criteria. Once the 26 automatic qualifiers were known, the next 14 best NPI-rated teams formed the list of at-large selected programs to fill out the bracket.

The experiences will be a little different for each of the ODAC's teams in the bracket. Lynchburg (16-3) received a bye through the first round and was also selected to host a four-team pod for second and third round play. Washington and Lee (15-5) also picked up a first-round pass, but will be on the road in rounds two and three. Roanoke (13-5) will be on the road like the Generals, and will feature in one of the eight midweek first round outings.

Roanoke will host that early outing at Kerr Stadium. Marymount University will be the Maroons' opponent. The Saints (9-7) won the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) championship. The winner of that contest -- slated for 4:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday -- travels to Salisbury University for the next two rounds and will square off with the host Sea Gulls (16-3).

Washington and Lee heads to Newport News to begin its tournament at Christopher Newport University. The Generals take on Gettysburg College at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Bullets (12-4) hoisted the Centennial Conference trophy. The host Captains (16-3) await the winner of Pfeiffer University (14-2) and Transylvania University (12-4) to begin their tournament experience.

Lynchburg is in much the same position as the Hornets must wait for the winner of Ohio Wesleyan University and Grove City College for their second round matchup on Shellenberger Field. The Battling Bishops (11-6) won the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) title, while the Wolverines (13-7) claimed the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) trophy. Lynchburg's game is at noon on Saturday, which precedes the York College (Pa.) and Colorado College second round clash. The Spartans (18-1) won the MAC Commonwealth championship, while the Tigers (11-2) are an at-large entry as an independent program.

All eight first round games are scheduled for Wednesday, May 6, with second and third round play on Saturday and Sunday, May 9-10. The quarterfinals will be played on Saturday and Sunday, May 16-17. The national championship game will be played in the Commonwealth on Sunday, May 24. Face-off is slated for 12:00 p.m. ET at Scott Stadium on the campus of the University of Virginia.
