ODAC Men's Soccer Report: Week 8

All 12 of the games over the past week that featured ODAC men's soccer team were conference outings. With three regular season league contests remaining, the top of the table is occupied by Bridgewater and Washington and Lee on 16 points at 5-0-1 each. Nationally 18th-ranked Lynchburg lost for the first time this season during the midweek to Hampden-Sydney, but the Hornets returned to the win column on the weekend and sit third with 15 points. Meanwhile, the Tigers picked up two big wins, adding a victory over Roanoke on Saturday to collect six points on the week and move into fourth position and five markers clear of Virginia Wesleyan in fifth place.

  • ZANE KOWALSKI | BRIDGEWATER | GOALKEEPER
    Kowalski, a first-year from Midland, N.C., picks up his first weekly award after registering 15 saves over two ODAC wins to help Bridgewater join Washington and Lee atop the ODAC table with 16 points at 5-0-1. The Eagles are 10-2-2 overall as one of three ODAC squads with 10 or more wins. During the midweek, Kowalski made five stops in the Eagles 3-1 win at Shenandoah. He made four saves in the first half to keep the Hornets off the board as BC led, 2-0, at the break. On the weekend at Randolph-Macon, Kowalski saw 16 shots sent his way. He made 10 saves including seven in the second half to help Bridgewater secure a 2-1 victory. For the season, Kowalski owns a 0.955 goals against average and a .767 save percentage with 23 stops.

  • RILEY QUEEN | BRIDGEWATER | MIDFIELDER
    Queen, a junior from Trinity, N.C., picks up his first ODAC weekly honor of the season after scoring three times to help Bridgewater to a pair of ODAC road wins. The Eagles are now joint-top in the ODAC table on 16 points with Washington and Lee at 5-0-1 in league games and 10-2-2 overall. On Wednesday at Shenandoah, scored the opening goal off an assist from Erick Lobo just 2:08 from the opening whistle. He then registered the Eagles third goal in the 60th off an assist from Trey Widrick on the way to a 3-1 triumph. On Saturday, Queen scored the would-be game-winner via an unassisted effort in the 51st minute for a 2-1 win at Randolph-Macon. For the season, Queen leads the ODAC in goals scored (10) and is second in points (21). He has scored at least one goal in four of BC's past five games including each of the last three outings.

    • Averett keeper Anibal Lopez made nine saves across two games, while forward Nicholas Breen registered his first collegiate goal in a 2-0 win at Guilford.
    • Hampden-Sydney forward Walker Stebbings scored both of H-SC's goals in a 2-0 win over No. 18 Lynchburg, while keeper Stig Larson made five saves in that contest and three in a 2-0 win at Roanoke.
    • Lynchburg forward Kohlby Wilson scored the first goal of the game in a 6-0 win over EMU.
    • Washington and Lee keeper Will Joseph made four saves over two wins including his 29th career clean sheet in 3-0 win over Guilford. Attacker Buster Couhig scored the winner via PK in a 2-1 win over Randolph-Macon and added one more against GC.
