ODAC Men's Soccer Report: Week 6

ODAC men's soccer programs were in action for 13 games last week with 10 marked as official ODAC contests. Five teams were unbeaten over the past seven days with Bridgewater and nationally 22nd-ranked Lynchburg going 2-0-0 with No. 23 Hampden-Sydney and Washington and Lee  going 1-0-1 and Randolph-Macon posting a draw in its lone contest. Bridgewater and Lynchburg are 3-0 atop the ODAC table with nine points. The Eagles 3-0 open is their best start to an ODAC slate since 2018. BC (8-2-1), LYN (8-0-2), and H-SC (8-1-1) have all posted an ODAC-best eight victories.

  • STIG LARSON | HAMPDEN-SYDNEY | GOALKEEPER
Larson, a first-year from Richmond, Va., helped nationally 23rd-ranked Hampden-Sydney to a 1-0-1 week in two ODAC contests to bring the Tigers' league mark to 2-0-1 and seven points to sit tied with Washington and Lee for third in the league table. Larson came up with seven saves over the course of the two contests that included just one goal allowed and the Tigers' fifth clean sheet of the season. On Wednesday, Larson posted four saves in a 1-1 draw at Washington and Lee. All four saves came in the second half including two over the final eight-plus minutes. On Saturday, Larson turned away all three of Guilford's shots on-goal in the Tigers 3-0 home shutout of the Quakers. For the season, Larson is tied for the ODAC lead in shutouts (5) and is one of two keepers to have played an ODAC-high 900 minutes. He has been between the sticks for the full game for all 10 of H-SC's games so far this season. Larson has made 17 total saves with a .708 save percentage.

  • TREY WIDRICK | BRIDGEWATER | FORWARD
Widrick, a junior from Cary, N.C., makes it two ODAC honors in as many weeks after contributing to four of Bridgewater's five goals to help the Eagles to a pair of conference wins. BC's 3-0 start to the conference season marks their best opening ODAC slate since 2018. On Wednesday, Widrick was in on all three goals including the game-winner with less than a minute to play in a 3-2 away triumph at Guilford. He slotted home the Eagles' first goal in the 16th minute for a 1-0 lead off an assist from Anthony Eugenio. Widrick then assisted Riley Queen on BC's second goal at the 35:04 mark for a 2-0 advantage. Then, after Guilford knotted the score at 2-all with two early second-half tallies, Widrick ended the drama as his free kick from 31 yards out was driven off a GC defender and beyond the Quakers' keeper with 57 ticks left on the clock to secure three points for BC. On Saturday, Widrick scored the second goal in Bridgewater's 2-0 victory over Roanoke, the program's first win against the Maroons since 2019. Queen assisted Widrick on his effort in the 71st minute. For the season, Widrick leads the ODAC in points (18), goals (7), shots (41), and shots on-goal (23). He is tied for third in assists (4).

    • EMU defender Logan Darrow headed home the game-tying goal off a long ball from keeper Andrew Arledge with 1-second to play to tie SU, 2-2, and earn a spot at #8 in ESPN's Top-10 Plays for Wednesday, October 1.
    • Hampden-Sydney midfielder Mason Dudley scored H-SC's goal in a 1-1 draw at Washington and Lee and added another goal in a 3-0 win over Guilford.
    • Lynchburg centerback Benjamin Velasquez helped the Hornets lock down a pair of clean sheets and first-year attacker Izaack Cruz scored twice each in 3-0 and 9-0 wins over Randolph and Averett, respectively.
    • Randolph-Macon defender Wiley Eubank converted a penalty kick to secure a 1-1 draw at EMU.
    • Washington and Lee defender Isaac Arrowood helped WLU post a 1-1 draw vs. #23 Hampden-Sydney and scored a goal in a 2-0 triumph at #20 Virginia Wesleyan.
