ODAC Men's Soccer Report: Week 10

The final ODAC weekly report for men's soccer always includes the end of the regular season and quarterfinal results from the first weekend. The ODAC bracket is so far holding up in terms of seeding with nationally 12th-ranked and top-seed Lynchburg earning a 4-1 win over eighth-seed EMU. Fourth-seeded Bridgewater churned out a 1-0 win over fifth-seeded Virginia Wesleyan, while third-seeded Hampden-Sydney collected a 4-1 triumph over fourth-seeded Randolph. Second-seeded Washington and Lee registered a 1-0 win over seventh-seeded Randolph-Macon.

    Joseph, a senior from Wilmette, Ill., posted two more shutouts last week, his seventh and eighth of the season, to help the Generals to a season-ending win and a victory in the ODAC quarterfinals. He came up with five saves on Wednesday in a 2-0 win at Bridgewater, including four in the second half and two in the final three minutes. On Saturday, Joseph added three more stops in the 1-0 quarterfinal win over Randolph-Macon. For the season, Joseph leads the ODAC in goals against average (.444), save percentage (.867), and shutouts (8). He has allowed just six goals and made 39 saves in 1,215 minutes in front of the Generals' goal.

    Ovalle-Mares, a senior from Atlanta, Ga., registered a four-point week with one goal and a pair of assists to help Hampden-Sydney – which was receiving votes towards the latest United Soccer Coaches top-25 – secure the third seed in the ODAC Tournament and then pick up a victory in the conference quarterfinals. On Wednesday, Ovalle-Mares assisted Owen Edwards on the Tigers third goal in a 3-1 win over Randolph-Macon to close the regular season. Then on Saturday in the quarterfinals against Randolph College, Ovalle-Mares opened the game's scoring off an assist from Pierce Boerner and then assisted Colin Mason on the Tigers' third goal in a 4-1 victory over the WildCats. For the season, Ovalle-Mares has registered 10 points on three goals and four assists, the latter number tying for fifth in the conference.

    • Bridgewater keeper Zane Kowalski made two saves in a 2-0 loss to Washington and Lee and then three saves in a 1-0 ODAC quarterfinal win over Virginia Wesleyan. Forward Erick Lobo scored the goal in the win over VWU.
    • Hampden-Sydney fullback Owen Edwards scored the Tigers' final goals in both of their wins last week – 3-1 over Randolph-Macon and 4-1 over Randolph College in the ODAC quarterfinals.
    • Lynchburg center back Benjamin Velasquez helped nationally 12th-ranked Lynchburg allow just one goal last week and came forward to register an assist in a 4-1 win over EMU in the ODAC quarterfinals.
    • Randolph-Macon keeper Ethan Chenoweth made four saves in a 2-0 win over Shenandoah and three stops in a 1-1 draw at Randolph.
    • Washington and Lee attacker Sami Seife scored the game's only goal in a 1-0 win over Randolph-Macon in the ODAC quarterfinals on Saturday.
