ODAC Women's Volleyball Tournament Field Set

Marlins Complete Unbeaten Conference Season to Claim Top Seed

FOREST, Va. --- Nationally 16th-ranked Virginia Wesleyan University claims the top seed in the upcoming ODAC Women's Volleyball Tournament for the third time in the past three seasons. The Marlins (28-1, 11-0) posted their second unbeaten conference schedule in the past three years and continue a trend of three straight seasons in which the league's No. 1 seed has achieved top-billing with a blemish-free ODAC record.

The University of Lynchburg (25-3, 10-1), which is receiving votes (90) towards the AVCA top-25 after being ranked the previous week, continues its impressive season as the second seed. Tiebreakers were needed to determine the next two seeds, which also established the final two of four hosts in the quarterfinals on Tuesday. Bridgewater College (17-7) and Washington and Lee University (20-6) tied at 8-3 in league play. The Eagles defeated the Generals, 3-0, in September, awarding BC the No. 3 seed via the league's first tiebreaking step. WLU, which had been ranked by the AVCA all season until this past week where the Generals are noted as still receiving votes (85) towards the rankings list, will play out of fourth position in the ODAC's eight-team bracket.

Shenandoah University (12-10, 7-4) closed its first season under head coach Travis Abele with a victory on Wednesday evening, securing the fifth seed and a trip south on I-81 to Lexington in the quarterfinals. Fellow first-year mentor Chris Miron guided Guilford College (17-8, 6-5) to a sixth-place finish in the league table, which comes with a bus ride north to Bridgewater on Tuesday. Randolph-Macon College (12-10, 5-6) head coach Kelsey Goodman is also in the midst of a first-season experience, but she is quite familiar with the ODAC having previously coached at Guilford and played at Roanoke College. Her Yellow Jackets square off with Lynchburg in the opening round. The Maroons (9-15, 4-7) cap the tournament field as the eighth-seed and will travel to Virginia Beach for quarterfinal play.
