ODAC Men's Basketball Report: Week 4

It may have been a limited week in terms of action with just 12 games played over the past week, but ODAC teams were thankful during the first holiday period of the season in going 11-1 against non-conference foes. All games have been of the non-conference variety so far this year with league programs posting a 47-19 (.712) combined record. All but one ODAC team features a .500 or better record with three squads boasting unbeaten schedules. Shenandoah tops the chart at 6-0 with Washington and Lee at 5-0 and nationally second-ranked Randolph-Macon at 4-0. No. 15 Virginia Wesleyan is 5-1, while No. 10 Hampden-Sydney and No. 13 Roanoke are joined at 4-1 by Averett.

  • DORIAN DAVIS | SHENANDOAH | GUARD
    Davis, a senior from Florence, S.C., pulled down 14 defensive rebounds with five steals and two blocked shots to help Shenandoah stay unbeaten at 6-0 with a pair of victories last week. In an 87-64 win over Penn State Schuylkill on Monday, Davis scored 11 points with nine rebounds (7 defensive), an assist, and a steal. He was a 4-of-9 from the field and buried both of his foul shots. The next day, Davis registered 22 points with nine boards (7 defensive) in an 80-74 win over Lancaster Bible College. He blocked two shots and came away with four steals, including one late-on to help propel the Hornets to their sixth straight victory. He also chipped in three assists and was 7-of-15 from the field including 5-of-10 from deep. For the season, Davis is averaging 14.3 points and 6.8 rebounds, the latter figure tying for seventh in the ODAC. He is tied for third with 12 steals.

  • OMARI DEVEAUX | VIRGINIA WESLEYAN | GUARD
    DeVeaux, a graduate student from Henrico, Va., earns his second ODAC weekly honor of the season after helping nationally 15th-ranked Virginia Wesleyan to a 3-0 week to improve to 5-1. DeVeaux registered a trio of games with 20 or more points and shot better than 50-percent from the field in each. He began with 21 points in a 74-58 victory over Regent University. He was 9-of-18 from the field and added nine rebounds, two assists, and a steal. The Marlins then took part in the CNU Holiday Invitational on Saturday and Sunday. In game one, DeVeaux exploded for 28 points in an 83-67 triumph over Pfeiffer University. He was 9-of-17 shooting including 4-of-7 from three-point range and went 6-of-6 from the foul line. He added three rebounds, two assists, and a steal to his line. DeVeaux scored 20 points in a 70-56 win over Dickinson College on Sunday. He cashed in 3-of-7 shots from beyond the arc as part of a 7-for-14 shooting performance. He canned each of his three free throws and notched three rebounds, three assists, and three steals. For the season, DeVeaux is second in the ODAC in scoring (23.3) and points scored (140). He is second in free throw shooting (.909, 30-of-33) and eighth in three-point shooting (.368, 14-of-38).

    • Averett guard Timayahs Bracey scored 17 points with 2 boards and 3 assists in an 83-60 win over William Peace.
    • EMU guard Isaiah Carr registered his 2nd double-double of the year with 10 points and 10 rebounds in a 64-60 win over Stevenson. Guard Jazen Walker went for 14 points and 3 boards.
    • Guilford guard Braylen Salters registered a Guilford season-high 32 points (10-20 FG, 11-12 FT) with 3 boards and 2 steals in a 121-85 triumph over Pfeiffer. Guard Dawson Edwards added 19 points, 5 boards, 4 assists, and 4 steals.
    • Lynchburg forward  Jamarcus Brown posted a double-double with 20 points and 12 boards to go with two blocked shots in a 72-70 win at Methodist.
    • Randolph forward Trey Miller averaged 9.5 points and 10.0 rebounds with 2 assists in the WildCats 1-1 week. Forward Elijah Cox averaged 13.0 points and 4.0 rebounds with two assists.
    • Virginia Wesleyan forward Amari Moorer averaged 17.3 points and 6.0 rebounds with 9 assists, 3 steals, and 5 blocked shots in the No. 15 Marlins' 3-0 week.
    • Washington and Lee forward Addison Newkirk went for 18 points and 5 rebounds with 4 assists and 4 steals in a 76-63 win over Southern Virginia. Forward Connor Amorosi  posted 20 points and 5 boards.
