ODAC Golf Report: Spring - Week 2

Congratulations to the men's teams from Bridgewater and Shenandoah for winning team trophies from two of the five tournaments that featured ODAC golfers over the past week. Players continue to be routine finishers in the top-10 on tournament leaderboards.

MEN'S GOLF - Three Tournaments

  • Tiger Invitational (Results): Hampden-Sydney hosted its annual Tiger Invitational at Forest Creek Golf Club in Pinehurst, N.C. The event featured 19 schools (20 teams) with only one featuring outside the top-50 in the Clippd rankings at the time of entry. That list included ODAC members No. 27 Lynchburg (T-6th), No. 5 Washington and Lee (T-6th), No. 34 Guilford (16th), No. 44 H-SC (T-18th w/ their “B” team), and No. 50 Averett (20th). The top ODAC individuals were LYN's Alan Van Asch and WLU's Charlie Krasnewich, who tied for sixth at 3-under 213 after 54 holes of competition.
  • Music City Shootout (Results): Legacy Golf Course in Springfield, Tenn., is where we found Bridgewater at the top of a 15-team (11 school) leaderboard after 36 holes of play at the Music City Shootout hosted by Rose-Hulman. The Eagles won by 21 strokes at 16-over 592. Brandon Washburn and Jackson Baugher tied for third at 4-over 148.
  • Fernandina Beach Collegiate (Results): Shenandoah did some work while on Spring Break as the Hornets won the Fernandina Beach Collegiate hosted by Mount St. Joseph at the Fernandina Beach Golf Club in Fernandina Beach, Fla. The Hornets topped the 12-team (10 school) leaderboard by one stroke at 6-under 858 following 54 holes of competition. Dan Ailor tied for second at 5-under 211.

WOMEN'S GOLF - Two Tournaments

  • Savannah Invitational (Results): A week after many of Division III's best men's programs kicked off their seasons with play in Savannah, Ga., many of Division III's most successful women's programs were in action at the Club at Savannah Harbor for the Savannah Invitational hosted by Berry College. The field featured 18 schools (19 teams) with all but one ranked no lower than 49th in the Clippd rankings at the time play began. Three ODAC schools competed in the 36-hole event in No. 9 Randolph-Macon (5th), No. 10 Washington and Lee (7th), and No. 36 Lynchburg (16th). WLU's Bella Scucchi was the top ODAC finisher in a tie for seventh at 3-under 143.
  • Music City Shootout (Results): Bridgewater carried the ODAC flag in the five-team Music City Shootout hosted by Rose-Hulman at Rolling Hills Golf Course in Russellville, Ky. The Eagles finished third at 112-over 688. Emily Price tied for fifth at 18-over 162 following 36 holes of play.
  • BELLA SCUCCHI | WASHINGTON AND LEE UNIVERSITY
Scucchi, a first-year from Dallas, Texas, made a splash in her first collegiate tournament, earning a top-10 showing competing as an individual at the Savannah Invitational hosted by Berry College at the Club at Savannah Harbor in Savannah, Ga. Scucchi tied for seventh overall as part of a top-10 grouping that included six of the top-10 ranked players in Division III by Clippd. Scucchi carded a 36-hole total of 3-under 143 on the par-73 layout set to 5,714 yards. She opened her collegiate scorecard with a 1-under 72 that featured four birdies and 12 pars. She was one stroke better in round two, posting a 2-under 71 powered by five birdies and 10 pars. Scucchi, who finished four shots back of champion No. 4 Emma Wong from nationally second-ranked Carnegie Mellon, led the field in par-5 scoring (-4, 4.60) and tied for third in birdies (9).

Washington and Lee, ranked 10th by Clippd, finished seventh overall at 22-over 606 (299-307).

  • DAN AILOR | SHENANDOAH UNIVERSITY
Ailor, a senior from Montpelier, Va., has opened up the spring season with an individual medal and now a runner-up showing after tying for second at the Fernandina Beach Collegiate hosted by Mount St. Joseph at Fernandina Beach Golf Club in Fernandina Beach, Fla. Ailor was the ODAC's low player compared to par over three tournaments this week, posting a 5-over 211 (70-72-69) following 54 holes of competition on the par-72 track to 6,650 to 6,730 yards depending upon the round. Ailor opened with a 2-under 70 powered by five birdies and nine pars. He posted an even-par 72 over his next 18 holes that included two birdies and an eagle on the par-5 490-yard second hole. Ailor turned up the red numbers in round three, carding a 3-under 69 that included six birdies split evenly between either nine. Ailor led all players in par-5 scoring (-7, 4.42) and was second in par-3 scoring (-1, 2.83). On the national rankings chart, Ailor's outing resulted in a jump of 47 places from 192nd to 145th in the Division III table produced by Clippd.

The team title came down to the final hole with Shenandoah defeating No. 21 Transylvania University and Swarthmore College by one stroke. The Hornets finished at 6-under 858 (292-286-280) to top the 12-team (10 school) leaderboard. SU led the event in birdies (61).
