JONATHAN McEWEN | WASHINGTON AND LEE UNIVERSITY
McEwen, a junior from Portsmouth, Va., highlighted his entry on the 2026 Ben Hogan Award “Watch List” by winning the first high-profile event to kickoff the spring season. McEwen won for the second time this season, topping a 100-player field at the Savannah Invitational hosted by Berry College at the Club at Savannah Harbor in Savannah, Ga. McEwen won by three strokes, carding a 13-under par 203 following 54 holes of competition on the par-72 layout set to 6,958 yards. What is most impressive is how well McEwen played on the front foot. He opened with a clean 8-under 64 that featured six birdies and an eagle on the par-5 530-yard 11th hole. He followed that with a 5-under 67 featuring seven more birdies to put him at 13-under after 36 holes. While his scorecard was a bit too “colorful” to say he cruised in round three, he offset four bogeys with four birdies to post an even-par 72 and win comfortably over a trio of players from Huntingdon College. McEwen is the top-ranked player in Division III – a distinction he has owned all season – with an adjusted scoring average of 67.8 covering 12 rounds of play.
Washington and Lee tied for second overall with eighth-ranked Oglethorpe University at 6-under par 858 (282-281-295). Top-ranked Huntingdon won by an impressive 24 strokes at 30-under 834. The Generals entered the tournament ranked ninth in the country, but WLU left Savannah having jumped four spots to No. 5, the program's highest showing this season in the Clippd rankings.
